Daniel Saporta, aka Salazar – a Sephardic Jew passing as a Spaniard – is the celebrated owner of Klub Kaukasus, an ornamental cabaret touted by the local scandal sheet as “the definitive café Berlin.” Playing host to the high ranking Nazi officers unaware of his true identity, Daniel caters to appetites both pure and perverse, providing his clientele with first-rate food, drink and women.

It is 1943, Daniel Saporta is in hiding. From his cramped, unheated attic cubicle, he writes his story about the years in Berlin leading up to his concealment. Utterly accurate in its depiction of historical and military events, and astoundingly rich in detail, Café Berlin creates a vivid and compelling picture of a city and a time that fascinated and appalled the rest of the world half a century ago.
